Reflection on Project 2 (Video Tutorial)

This was our last assignment and we were supposed to do in a group. One of our friends was kind enough to plan a topic on “How to make a paper boat?” and she had sent us in wechat. There were quite a number of instructions to be followed while making a paper boat.
All the instructions were divided among five of us. We were to make a video clips and send them to Sonam Wangdi to produce final version of video clip. This project was also interesting because while making the video clips I had to repeat several times because sometimes I would forget what to say next. My daughter had to sacrifice her sleep that day because she was my photographer.
After making video clips I had a tough time sending to Sonam Wangdi because my net was very slow and it took almost 6 hours for me to upload and send. We really had fun because all of us were active on wechat and sometimes we made calls to clarify our doubts.
I would say this project was one of the best projects that I have ever done. I learnt a lot from my friends. I would definitely create such video tutorials in the class for my children so that they can enjoy.

Thank you sir for giving us this project and thank you for giving us an opportunity to keep or friends closer. I hope sir would enjoy going through our video tutorial. Thank you once again.

Reflection on Project 1 (wondershare quiz creator)

This was one of the most interesting projects that I have done in a group. To carry out the we created a group as ICT group with 5 of us and sometimes we made calls on how to go about it. The quiz that we made in training was just simple. We had to hyperlinked to get the correct answer but from this wondershare quiz I really had an opportunity to explore different types of questions. This software had helped me add a range of multimedia options to make the whole thing more interesting, or mix and match types in a single quiz.
This software also has a great range of configuration options that will allow us to choose everything, from how many attempts we get, the pass rate and the time limit. I gave this software to our IT teacher and she created a quiz for her revision. She even found this tool very helpful and effective to use in the classroom.
Through lots of discussion we created a successful quiz perhaps may have done in a proper way but for us it was a great success. In the process of doing this project I have learnt a lot. I assure you I am going to use this for my revision. I want my children to enjoy what they are learning. So, lastly thank you sir for enhancing my ICT knowledge.

Reflection on Microsoft words Activities.

This activity was one of the most difficult ones and challenging as well. The first activity seemed very easy but as I went on I found some were very challenging. I never had an idea on paragraphing, striking single and double and making a spiral. The last option that I could take was browsing the net and I even had to seek help from some friends. Though it was challenging yet it was worth learning. Some of the activities had to be done several times because I could not get exactly like what sir had instructed.
Some activities were very interesting like changing the font size, colouring and capitalization. Again changing the font size into 15 was one of the challenges. I even could not understand from net after browsing several times. When I asked this to my friends I was told that I had to manually do that.
Designing a cover page of a newsletter was interesting as I didn’t have any idea about it. But I learnt to make it. It would be easy for me to write newsletter later because I am equipped with enough information on how to go about it.
Over all the activities given were quite mixture of interesting and challenging. In order to have a complete and successful task I had to work harder and had to get help from others but my hard work didn’t get wasted. Whatever I learnt new things I could apply them. I want to learn and explore further so that the skills that I have learnt could be utilized properly and effectively.
Lastly, thank you sir for giving us the opportunity to confront the challenges in doing this activities. I hope to learn more in future.

Reflection for last three sessions   (8/7/2015 – 10/7/2015)

Our tutor took us through the journey on how to use Google drive, docs and forms. I have learnt how to save any type of documents in drive. The most important I have learnt was that as long as there is an accessible to internet I can access my documents anytime and anywhere. I never knew that Google drive would work like a pen drive. We can keep our files like; photos, stories, designs, drawings, recordings, videos and so many things. The same documents can be shared through net to everybody.
Google Docs helps us to create any type of documents like Microsoft word and spreadsheet. We can easily access to these documents as long as we are connected to internet. We can exchange information and different ideas among friends through social network. I have learnt that we can safely store our documents and access them anywhere and anytime.
Google forms can be used to collect any type of data or information in a faster way. We can create any type of questionnaire and share among our friends. After that we can analyze the data or information upon the receiving of responses from our friends.
I have come across the BLOGS when I got an opportunity to attend Chiphen Rigphen training in Samtse. I created the account but didn’t know what to post and even didn’t have any idea about how to view it. But after attending the session on this topic I am very much familiar and I will continue making best use of it. I once read an article written by one of the outsiders about Bhutan and I wanted to comment on it but due to inadequate knowledge about blog I couldn’t do anything. What I have learnt about the blog was it refers to a public webpage which is published by either an individual or a group of individuals.
Blogs are used to comment on all sorts of topics, depending on the interests of the blogger (author). Through blogs we can share and comments so many things whereby our writing skills can also be developed. I want to make sure that I make best use of it hereafter.
To be honest I have never heard about wiki. As per tutor’s instruction I created the account but still not sure on how to go about it. May be I will get to learn more about it and later use it without any problem. In my conclusion I would like to thank our tutor for taking us through various social networks. I have learnt a lot during RS class.

   Thank you sir.

Reflection Day III
Web search
On this day we were taught how to browse using different search tools. In fact the tools were very interesting, informative and useful. So far what I was searching in the net was just a basic search. After attending the third session I came to know more about an advance search and I found it very helpful. I also found that it could save time because required information is provided within short period of time.
The following are the search tools introduced to us.
  • Boolean Operator
  • Truncation
  • Wild cards
  • Restricting search using site
  • Restricting search by format
Boolean Operators
They are simple words (AND, OR, NOT or AND NOT) used as conjunctions to combine or exclude keywords in a search, resulting in more focused and productive results. This should save time and effort by eliminating inappropriate hits that must be scanned before discarding.
Using AND operators The AND & OR operators are used to filter records based on more than one condition. The AND operator displays a record if both the first condition AND the second condition are true.
Truncation
Truncation, also called stemming, is a technique that broadens your search to include various word endings and spellings. To use truncation, enter the root of a word and put the truncation symbol at the end. Examples:
child* = child, childs, children, childrens, childhood
genetic* = genetic, genetics, genetically
Truncation symbols may vary by database; common symbols include: *, !, ?, or #
Wildcards:
Similar to truncation, wildcards substitute a symbol for one letter of a word. This is useful if a word is spelled in different ways, but still has the same meaning.
Examples:
wom!n = woman, women
colo?r = color, colour
Restricting search using site;
Using the site operator to search for information from a particular location on the web helps in narrowing down our search. Eg. Typing “org, bt, gov, com…” in the url
Restricting search by formats;
Another way of narrowing down the search and saving time is by restricting with file formats. Type the type of file that we are looking for will reduce our search task to a great deal. Eg. “pdf, htm, xls, docs, ppt,…

Reflection day II
Our second session begun with the importance of being 21st century teachers and the learners. It is mainly focused on teaching and learning through different technologies. Both educators and learners are benefited in various fields. The use of ICT enables children to explore the world beyond their imagination and reach the destination of fruitful learning. It helps the children to stimulate their potential thereby learning becomes more effective.
Some of the informative tools were very useful in our daily teaching and learning. We were taught on finding the educational websites, audio and videos, graphics, encyclopedia and many more. These tools help children to enhance their skills like critical thinking, collaborative, communication and their creativity that enable them in further learning.

I am very much thankful to sir to taking us through this session where I have learnt a lot. I will definitely use this in my teaching and learning process besides I would like to share these with my friends and students.

Reflection on ICT Day I

Of the three optional modules I chose ICT because we have been told that we were digital natives. Though I had little knowledge about ICT, I got inspired when I attended Chiphen Rigphel Training and FIT module in my first year first semester. These really helped me in enhancing my knowledge and skill regarding the use of ICT in teaching and learning in our daily lives. The use of ICT in the 21st century helps children to develop critical thinking, media literacy, communication to the outside world, collaboration learning, sharing of information and creativity in them. As digital natives we must prepare our youth to fit in the world of technologies. It is our responsible to adopt different strategies so that children enjoy and learn comfortably in the digital world.
In the first day we were taken through five different tools like informative tool, communicative tool, constructive tool, co- constructive tool and situating tool. Each tool was very informative and help us to cater to acquire different skills.
The use of Google apps was very new to me. I never had ideas about using of Microsoft words, preparing Power point and Microsoft excel in our Gmail account. I have learnt so many new things in Google apps. One of the new things I came across was using of Google drive. I never knew it would work like other drives. After having learnt about it I have stored all my certificates and important documents in it. I can access to my documents any time anywhere as long as I am accessible to internet.
Introducing us to create survey questionnaires using different question type were very interesting and challenging. I could do it pretty well with the help of tutor’s guidance and friends’ help. I would like to thank our tutor for taking us different world where we explored and learnt a lot. I am sure I can use everything that I have learnt to my children later on.
